Who says that you can\u2019t decide to form a band later in life?<\/p>

FlipSide, the band that could have been \u2018Voltarol nights\u2019 or even \u2018one non bald\u2019 goes from strength to strength.<\/p>

First started in November 2026.<\/p>

Meet the band:<\/h2>

Jon<\/em><\/strong> - drummer extraordinaire! Jon started drumming when he was just a wee lad and was professional in his youth. A long break was broken (see what I did there?) last year when he was asked to fill in for a local group. His love for drumming was rekindled and the rest, as they say, is history!<\/p>

Martin<\/em><\/strong> - excellent on the electric guitar (although we\u2019re trying to get him to do some acoustic too). Martin was, until very recently, a secondary school teacher. He started the school\u2019s teacher band (Manic Street Teachers) back in 1997 and has been passionate about playing ever since. Despite officially retiring from teaching, Martin is still volunteering at the school, although we suspect it\u2019s primarily so that he can continue leading their band!<\/p>

Steve<\/em><\/strong> - our brilliant bass player. Steve has been playing bass guitar, amongst other instruments, for quite a number of years now. You don\u2019t realise how critical the bass guitar is until the player is on holiday and unable to get to practice! Steve also helps with vocals and is a big Eagles fan, so listen out for some of their hits in our future sets.<\/p>

Richard<\/em><\/strong> - amazing on acoustic guitar and provides great vocals. Richard is extremely adaptable in his musical talents, playing acoustic and electric guitar, as well as a bit of keyboard - he also has a great singing voice and is great at drawing!<\/p>

Mandie<\/em><\/strong> - (me!) having been told that I wasn\u2019t good enough for the school show at the tender age of about 12, I had never sung in public until singing with the Manic Street Teachers (see above) in 2022. I worked out that, singing with 4-5 others, if you stand far enough back from the microphone, you can\u2019t be heard anyway ;-). I joined \u201cThe Choir Effect\u201d, a local contemporary choir, around the same time and was happy performing within a group of 40-50 other singers. My solo performing started with a short set for a local band in September 2025, followed by FlipSide\u2019s debut 50-minute set in May 2026.<\/p>
